Flow Interface
User Interface & Experience Design
This project is a redesign of the HotWheels website, it aims to create an engaging online experience for its target audience of teens and young adults. I wanted to focus on implementing a CMS for clients to update content on the page intuitively. One of the main challenges I had to tackle was optimizing the content in the database to improve overall efficiency and reduce load times.
Throughout the project I wanted to ensure that the design and layout aligned with the HotWheels brand, using a vibrant color palette and game-like typefaces. I also used short animations to give the user more context and add visual interest.
Design Strategy
To tackle this challenge, I began by analyzing the features of the existing platform. Recognizing the need to appeal to a young adult audience, the redesigned layout prioritized a dynamic and visually engaging experience.
Process
I gathered assets like images and icons, also drafting a few layout plans for the website. The initial layout was better than the current design but didn't significantly improve the user experience. I experimented with animated elements, micro-animations and grids to make the experience more interactive.
Additionally, the product page uses a CMS to load the information in each card. I encountered technical challenges when linking the CMS with the website where the products would appear in a disordered manner. By re-framing the layout in a grid I was able to create a consistent and cohesive layout in the product page.
After sharing the initial draft with other designers and Hot Wheels fans, I was able to iterate and make changes according to the feedback. The layout was static and did very little to engage new users.
Final Design
The HotWheels redesign project successfully renewed the brand's online presence, delivering an immersive and engaging experience. It also maintains the core themes of the brand while appealing to a broader audience.
